translation x transcription of SKA kontra SONA 2.0

Art Ecology Resistance (SKA) Montage of Events by Pulang Balintataw July 27, 2015, QC Elliptical Road cor. Kalayaan Ave. Quezon City Chung - From my own perspective, I’m not representing anything. Art Ecology Resistance (SKA), is an inclusive event, everyone is welcome to join, partake and participate. It is horizontally organized, w/o leaders. The relations here are non-hierarchical, there are no bosses who would come up with orders or dominate the action and initiatives. All of these are out of our own volition, based on actions we have been doing elsewhere, not only here but also in the communities we are based in. Usually, those who take part of Art Ecology Resistance (SKA) are artists, appropriate technology designers, those who are familiar with solar power, environmentalists, activists, common people, musicians mostly from the punk subculture, herbalists, organic gardeners. We came here together to demonstrate that another world is possible. Fernan – the environmental bureau (DENR) provides permits to extract minerals like gold, it is already existing, meaning the trade is on-going until now. Corporations are given permission that is little known to the vast majority but is even declared small-scale mining. In reality, corporations are not engaged in small-scale mining but large-scale extractive industries which destroys mountains to exploit our natural resources. One of the more recent tragic story was that of Liwalwal in Davao, apart from extracting natural resources, lives should be spared not at the expense of corporate development. Fread – just to remind everyone, this is really really, free market. Is it really for free? (bystander). The principle here is free speech rather than free beer, based on our senses. If you feel that it would already suffice and satisfy your needs, you free to get anything. On the other hand, if you feel that you can give anything you would like to share. We are advocating the practice of sharing, so that others could also participate. This is really, really free market open to everyone. Chung – this is among our advocacies, we promote alternative sources of energy, for example solar power. We are made aware of the climate crisis, we thought of something that would be an alternative way of getting electricity kung saan that would not depend on the main grid or national power like Marelco. The way it works is very basic, solar power technology, what is called off-grid. What you see here is what we call off-grid which could provide just enough energy without relying on Marelco or the main grid. The solar panel you can observe just needs at least four equipment, this is not very technical. You can do-it-yourself even your mom, dad, big sister and elder brother can do it. The technicality is just minimal, you can try off-grid solar power yourself. Deo palma – in behalf of Ang KaSaMa or Katipunan ng mga Samahang Maharlika (Assemblage of Maharlika Organizations) we are here to signify our support to SKA (Art Ecology Resistance). During the previous year, we were here and this year we are still here despite the rains. This is because we believe that SKA is a movement that harmonizes what one thinks, speaks and acts. Do you know what is the biggest problem in our country? It is the inconsistency of how one thinks, speaks and acts. But in SKA, art ecology resistance) we strongly support the event because we believe that we share a common vision. While there is flooding in the city centers like Metro Manila, while trees are being cut and while our environment is mercilessly destroyed we would still be here. Not only to show our sympathies but through our direct action we could build another world that is possible. Many thanks to SKA and in closing, expected in the eyars to come we would still be around to take part of this event. Long live SKA, prosperous our country Maharlika. Pong – you could make sense of it, this was before, there are still trees, then came the industries, trade, in turn its by-product is pollution, clearcuts became commonplace, there are no trees anymore. At present, the repercussions could be seen in the planet’s ecology. Because art is encompassing. Even more so if you take it outside the galleries. Out in the open, you can show to common folks and could induce questions from them. Why is this his subject and what is he painting about? Perhaps because this is what is happening. Then it expands, because it’s free. It is if you don’t force people what they are supposed to do or want to do with their lives. Mhel x Julius – that’s what I have read, that’s what you said to me. Precisely, there is proof, it is precisely what they do in their place in Australia. That’s why I received books about permaculture, it’s all good. That’s what you said about ipil-ipil, I adopted everything you said. It is effective, it’s all good, I did everything you said, it is all good. Katutubo – If we continue to use paper made from wood, there is something wrong in what people do. There is such a thing as environmental protection program but they don't know how to implement or how to do it exactly. What is needed to be done? Back to the ancient? Or don’t make use of products made out paper. So, this is a warning not to use strong words, we might not be able to do justice. Many thanks to everyone, may you learn something about the environment. We just feel it’s insane what is happening. We’re making fools out of ourselves. Save the tree but we’re using paper made from tree. Magisa kolektib – the squat hotel is a hotel which encourages people to be close to each other, to talk, to tell stories and share thoughts. That’s why the squat hotel is always open to all, all the time, anyone could check-in. It is up to them how they would agree about their arrangements inside or how they take turns. They could also check-out if they want to, it is a healthy way to make sense of what is happening. We can listen to each other’s stories by not isolating ourselves. Meanwhile, participatory zine making workshop is an event, it also provides a venue for people to talk to others and place themselves in close proximity with each other. Everybody is also invited to express themselves freely without reservations or limits what should go out in the paper using the typewritter. It doesn’t matter what is inside you would like to outpour through the zine making workshop, s/he is free to do so. According to the participants, some would always say: this is what the order is, you’re not permitted to, it’s supposed to be like this, that is incorrect, that is outright wrong, why did you do it, or how can you do something ugly. In the said event, the participatory zine making workshop, it’s not the case. One is free to articulate, as long as s/he allows himself or herself to participate in the event. Therefore, s/he has nothing to loose, no authority to be afraid from, free from threats you cannot do this or that. Dj zero – Black Radio is a pirate radio, we usually occupy the airwaves via 107.9 w/o permission from the authorities, we would also try to come up with something that is not included in the mainstream media like alternative topics which are rarely features in the radio programs which folks listen to in other parts of the archipelago. At the moment, Radyo Itim, we are transmitting what is happening as we speak in Art Ecology Resistance. We transmit live the solidarity speeches of the involved individuals and collectives which the corporate media doesn’t pay any attention to. Through Radyo Itim there is a common space for these kind of discourse. Whatever you cannot express through the usual channels like radio or other media outlet, Radyo Itim and other anti authoritarian media can do it freely. You can express your mind, you can do so as individuals or as a group. It is of prime importance, if we cannot express, we are not free. Dj seitan – this is DJ Seitan, one of the Radyo Itim DJs. Before, when I’m still young, I was able to watch a flick, the title of which is “pumped up the volume,” starring Christian Slater. It so happened that my friend, DJ Memory also watched the same movie. After 10 years, we met again and decided to come up with a pirate radio. We thought why not do something similar to pirate radio. We pitched story plans, how we could kick-start the program. Initially, we did some interviews, podcasts from time to time. Then, we were able to get some equipment, out of our pockets, someone else’s, there it is, we started to get along. Right now, we’re here in SKA, we are broadcasting simultaneously we have a live netcast, within 300 to 500 meters using solar power from the SKA coordinators, who put up this event. Up there is our improvised transmitter, you can easily spot it there. Then, we are recording this through a common smart phone, media player, whatever that comes out in the broadcast from 107.9 after which we would be playing this via ustream every Sunday, we have a regular pirate netcast.
