Dateline: SAS Research and Extension Progress



                The School of Arts and Sciences started to enhance its capability in Research and Extension as manifested by its involvement in local national and international fora.
                Last October 24, 2012, the school held its first ever Research Colloquium participated in by its faculty and students. Among the highlights were the presentations of two finished researches (Integration of Environmental Education in Philippine Curriculum: Some suggestions from Environmental Advocates by Engr. Joven M. Morales and Mr. Hilarion R. Elegado and Konsepto ng Kapwa sa ’71 Diliman Commune by Randy T. Nobleza). The said forum also featured four Research Proposals, 5 on-going researches, 16 poster presentations by the AB English fourth year students of the School of Arts and Sciences in which three was adjudged best posters namely, (1.)Reflected Images of Filipino Women Based on the Selected Short Stories of Estrella D. Alfon and Iris Shiela G. Cuisortonio by Camille Patrana  (2.) Sentential Analysis of Features Article in Three National Daily Newspapers by Patrick S. Magbuo, and (3.) Tracer Study of the AB English Graduates of the Marinduque State College: AY 2009-2010 to 2011-2012 by Ivy E. Molato. The said forum also featured paper presentation by students in Filipino which were later accepted and presented in Pambansang Samahan ng  Sikolohiyang Pilipino (PSSP)  last November 22-24, 2012, on the  37th Conference of Philippine Psychology in  Lyceum of the Philippines City of Batangas. The papers presented  in Filipino entitled, Paano Naapektuhan ng Musika ang Emosyon ng mga Mag-aaral ng School Of  Arts and Sciences, Deah Rose L. Jalimbawa, AB English 2, Malikahaing Isipan Sa Pagsulat Na Pammaraan, Ma. Graciel A. Retardo, AB English 2, Sining Ng Pagpinta Bilang Paraan Ng Pagpapahayag, Nhonnie Jean N. Mayores, AB English 2 and Gawi at Katamaran sa Pag-aaral, Jean Grace M. Solina at Camille A. Logmao, AB English 2.
                Last December 10, 2012, posters of the SAS faculty papers were presented in the 2nd STIRDC Annual R and D Conference Auditorium, UP Diliman City namely: The Correlation of Personality Traits to Study Habits by Mrs. Sheryl M. Mendoza and Prof. Cecilia S. Villamin, The Status of the Different Water Stations in the Province of Marinduque by Engr. Joven M. Morales, and Integration of Environmental Education in the Philippine Education Curriculum: Some Suggestions From Environmental Advocates in Marinduque by Engr. Joven M. Morales and Hilarion R. Elegado. The latter was adjudged 2nd place among the 40 participants.
                Research Capability did not stop at National Forum, the paper entitled: Integration of Environmental Education in the Philippine Education Curriculum.: Some Suggestions for Environmental Advocates was accepted and presented in thelast 6th International Conference and Scientific Meeting, Environmental Education Towards a Green Economy held last February 20-22, 2013at VCDU Hotel, Butuan City, sponsored by the Philippine Network of Educators on Environmental (PNEE) and Caraga State University.
                 The school does not only center on research; it also sharpens its capability in Extension Projects. Two of its projects were already extended successfully to their clients namely: 1. MITDIP- Journalismo - Extended to Marinduque Academy, a private High School in Mogpog  Marinduque with the successful launching of its first ever school paper named “Rise Up MARACA” 2. ELEEP - Language Enhancement Project Extended to the Day Care Workers of the Municipality of Mogpog. These two projects will also be extended to the Mogpog Comprehensive High School (Journalismo) and to the Day Care Workers of the Municipality of Gasan. The Memorandum of Agreement has been approved for Implementation by the Board of Trustees (BOT).The MOA Signing will be done on the first week of April 2013.
