37th PSSP Conference report

November 21,
As early as 6:30, we arrived at Balanacan Port and waited for Mr. Nobleza before we bought tickets. Then, we proceeded to the Star Horse Shipping Line. After four hours, we arrived at Dalahican and we had two cutting trip before we got on the bus station of Supreme.
Afterwards, we rode in a jeepney going to Batangas City and another jeepney again going to Alpha Hotel. And before 2:00 pm, we checked-in in the Alpha Hotel. We took a rest and Mr. Nobleza met us at the lobby for a visit in the Lyceum of the Philippines University, Batangas City. We had a tour in the campus and in the conference venue with the third year psych students, who hospitably assisted us Mr. Nobleza invited us to go to SM Batangas; we just took out our food and ate in the hotel. Lots of things happened during the long day, so the two of us had a safe and sound sleep.

November 22,
The next day, we woke up early to register ourselves for the start of the National Conference. It was a whole day plenary session and the delegates were given stubs for the two-day activity. The day ended in an amazing presentation of Lyceum University Lahing Batangan Culture and Arts group. Before we went back to the hotel, we ate in the Carinderia nearby. After a minute of rest, Mr. Nobleza met us at exactly 7:00 pm to give us some insights and little briefing for the presentation on the coming day.

November 23,
We woke up early for the activity on that day. It was the last activity of the PSSP National Conference. Mr. Nobleza instructed the two of us to have a separate observation of the presentations since it was a parallel session. So we just met during the lunch break, Mr. Nobleza gave us some instructions and techniques for our presentation in the afternoon. We had a different schedule of presentation that afternoon. So we got the chance to observe and take photographs, also to support each of our presentation, aside from the presentation of Mr. Nobleza. We received good and positive feedbacks from the observers and presenters also. Before we left the campus, we took photographs and received our certificates. We rode in the car of Mr. Nobleza’s friend, one of the PSSP staff. We arrived in the Alpha Hotel early as 6:00 pm. We just took a rest and then met Sir in the lobby again at 7:00 pm. We went out for a stroll in the town plaza and watched the animated theatrical presentation. After that, we took our dinner and buy some pasalubong. Then, before we went back to the hotel, we unexpectedly loss our way back to the hotel because we were fooled by the little barter. But we still found our way back.
During the day of our departure, we first visited the town market to buy some appropriate pasalubong. It was more than two hours when we checked-out. We rode in a jeepney going to Lipa and then Lipa to Robinsons Sto. Tomas. It took more than one hour before we found the bus station going to Turbina. Mr. Nobleza assured us to take our trip going to Dalahican before 2:30 pm. We just ate our lunch and got the 2: 30 trip going to Balanacan Port. After 4 hours, we arrived at Marinduque and went home at last.
As we experienced the National Conference, we found it better if we will adopt the panel discussion in the presentation and symposium here in our school. Since our school is involved in research study and the school is aiming to enhance and cultivate the communication skills, this will help us to exercise our capabilities in critical thinking and excel in reasoning. This kind of discussion or symposium use dialectic method. Through this, it might as well widen our vocabulary and construct our grammatical expression, wherein everyone, even the observer can contribute to the discussion giving their own insights and not just asking questions. Everybody is free to speak and can also answer the question given by their co-observer and presenter. At the same time it is very essential to the part of the presenter as a preparatory stage for thesis writing, because this could be also used in creating an interaction inside the classroom. It will nurture the language enhancement of the students. But we found out that there are some cases that the observers are getting critical that the questions may not seem to be a constructive one. This will trigger someone to show and tell more about his/her idea.

Deah’s presentation
According to the moderator, the topic I presented was a very interesting one since it discussed the effect of music to the emotion of individual. She asked me what is the hormone produced by the body when a person is in love. And she also interrogated me, what part of music, one is particular with, the sound or the lyrics itself. With the availability of knowledge I have, I answered her question orderly and organized. In line with this, another observer commented that I should consider in my study the age bracket of my respondents. She told me to focus on either children or youth for me to distinguish clearly he effect of music to the emotions which will be on the age of the correspondents. Since, we have different music preferences, it is vital factor must be given emphasis. Moreover, it was commented that my study has something to do with language. My study involves the integration of language wherein it is a significant ingredient of music possessing impact to the listener.

Nhonnie’s Presentation
After I presented my concept paper one of the observers asked me a question about the professional artist since my topic is about painting, he wonders if the personality of a person may also affect his craft, though it was just a profession and his career. Due to the fact that the scope of my study is limited, I told him that, I might consider that idea in improving my research, but I was able to answer him in the way I know, through giving reference from my presentation. Unexpectedly, I also received good feedbacks from one of the delegates from De Lassalle who was an observer and presenter also. He was surprise to know that I’m only a second year students and not really a psyche students but AB English major. He was amazed and told me to pursue a degree in psychology and get M.A degree but I don’t have plan. One of the presenters also from his side approached me and told me, that she was impressed, seeing a student like me doing such kind of study. She said I was able to present it well and it’s really nice that the school where I came from is doing a good job in raising students like me to be involved in this kind of activity. Since it shows that the school wanted to develop our skill and knowledge in the coming years for a second year student like me. And she has in mind that it’s not really impossible since my course is in the field of research also. She also suggested me, not to use the word “daw” because I sometimes might not notice that I’m making used of it already. And it’s nicer to hear. On the other hand, psych students of Lyceum approached me too. They said it was inspiring and impressive in their part being a psych students since an AB English major like me was able to participate in the National Conference and come up with my topic which they haven’t realize before. Especially when they found out that it has something to do in clinical psychology. They congratulated me also.
